Piano Services

Tuning

Piano manufacturers, dealers and tuners agree that your piano should be tuned every 6 mouths as well as every time they are moved to a new location. A new piano may need more tunings for the first year until the instrument has acclimated to its new home or location.

General Repair

Repairs cover a variety of different services including replacement, maintenance, and diagnosing abnormalities. Whether your piano has “sticking” keys, broken/missing key tops, or broken or missing action parts.

Regulation

Regular playing creates wear on a piano’s action, compacting and settling the felts and buckskin. Humidity can also create wear and tear in wood parts affecting the piano’s performance. Regulation corrects the affects of the wear and improves the touch and affects of the piano’s action and sound.

Voicing

Voicing is adjusting the piano’s tone, color, sustainability and quality of sound. The sound of a piano can be adjusted to brighten and polish the tone.

Climate Control

Changes to humidity causes the soundboard to expand and contract, altering the pitch of the piano. To help this issue, we proudly install and maintain Dampp-Chaser Life Saver systems. Which help to expand the life of your piano.

Piano Cleaning

We clean keys, casework, and the soundboard. Maintaining the pianos cleanliness inside is just as important as the outside to keep it looking and sounding its best.

Piano Evaluation

Looking to buy or sell a piano? It’s a good idea to get it appraised and/or evaluated. We’ll check all aspects of the piano to ensure its quality and a great playing instrument for you to get the most out of your musical experience.

Mr. Park has a lifetime of experience behind him and an exceptional ear. He understands the issues of living in an old house and the stress that puts on my grand vs. hear, cold, and humidity; he takes care of it as if it were his own, whereas other tuners just lectured me. I highly recommend him to you. Plus he's a good guy to talk with!!

I am writing this letter on behalf of Karl Park. I met Karl when I started as the Director of Spiritual Life here at Abernethy Laurels just over a year and a half ago. He has been taking care of the pianos in our facility for many years before that and is well acquainted with the instruments that we have here with all of their abilities and limitations. As someone who was a piano major in college and who has played many instruments in many different churches and facilities through the years, I was impressed from the beginning with not only his knowledge in working with these instruments but also with the passion and care that he has for them. In keeping with that fact, he has taken great care of our Steinway grand piano which is utilized in our Spirit Place - a multi-purpose space which allows it to be used for choir practice, worship services, and concerts and recitals for our residents. Recognizing that its sound was rather subdued and muted-a fact which is particularly noticeable in our space which has many soft surfaces which absorb sound and a very high ceiling which swallows it up-he developed a plan to replace the hammers and make some adjustments accordingly to attain a brighter sound which has a better ring in the space. I am grateful to have Karl caring for our instruments as he utilizes his years of experience as well as the learning opportunities in which he has taken part in his work here. He keeps each of our instruments from the Steinway to the humblest spinet sounding as best as it can so that our residents can enjoy the results.

It is my pleasure to report on the extraordinary improvement of the Steinway S at Abernethy Laurels (EveryAge) Retirement Center in Newton, North Carolina.

Every year that I played annual recitals at that beautiful facility, I asked for the Kawai in the lobby to be moved into Spirit Place for my performance. When asked why I didn’t play the Steinway, I tried to be diplomatic and replied that, being a small person, it required more force than I could muster.

In truth, I refused to play it because the treble (beginning at middle C) was completely unresponsive. A dull thud with no resonance and no singing quality was all you could expect. That said, the bass then became inordinately noticeable. None of my physical adjustments made any improvement. In short, the Kawai was infinitely better and considering the time and effort I invested in the music I presented, I wasn’t about to throw it all away just to play a piano the administration assumed was better due to its name.

Mr. Karl Park was completely familiar with my complaint. Other musically astute people echoed my sentiments. After eight years of annual recitals, I was elated to hear that Mr. Park had been contracted to fix the Steinway.

And fix it, he did! He invited me to come to Abernethy Laurels the day he finished his work in order to compare both pianos side by side. What a revelation! Solid, beautiful tone. Singing treble. No more overpowering bass, but balance. Perfect regulation. I played for more than an hour as he packed up and continued playing for two more hours.

As I switched from one to the other, I realized fully that the Steinway was now, by far, the better choice. I hope to be able to perform this year’s program in the near future and there will not be any need for diplomatic white lies.

Now this piano measures up to its name.
